No Doubt about it!!

First day of school! First week of school! It’s been a very exciting last couple of days. I have a son in grade 6 and my granddaughter is just started school in playschool. Yesterday was a sad/happy/exciting day!! Today she went alone and her brother miss’ her. So do I! It’s funny how us parents will go through a stage of needing our kids to be somewhere else and then when their gone, we miss them. What has been your experience at a time you needed a break, just to find out that you miss your child/children?

It’s like when they start going to over night camps. YA! Their gone!! Two hours later the house is clean and your left with silence. The missing of them begins. The week goes by slowly and then they come home and that’s when we realize as parents the break was a well deserved needed vacation. Do you have kids like mine? After the initial “Welcome Home Celebration” they start to fight. 

I miss those days!! Not for long, my two grandbabies already have disagreements over the toys they want to play with, even though they have tons of toys. They have one favorite and as soon as one is off, the other gets on. Soon they to will be heading to camp and the cycle of “welcome home fights” will begin.

I’m very fortunate though that my family loves one another and has a bond. There’s no doubt it!!

Hemp Milk

Ingredients:

5-6 cups Water – for desired thickness use more or less water

1 cup Shelled Hemp Seeds

Directions:

Mix the water and the Shelled Hemp Seeds in a blender.

Blend on high until creamy and smooth, about 2 minutes.

You can blend for flavor your favorite fruit or add vanilla, figs, dates, raisins, banana, honey maple syrup, chocolate.

If it’s to thick strain it through a cheese cloth.

Makes: 6-7 cups

Quinoa Seeds vs Hemp Seeds

These tiny little seeds are claimed to be the worlds nutrition seed which is high in Protein. I beg to differ! After doing research I found that Hemp Seeds are still higher in most categories for nutrition. Hemp Seeds also have more nutrition value them Quinoa Seeds. It’s not even a true grain or cereal as it’s related to spinach, beets and tumbleweed. Have you added spinach, beets or tumbleweed to your diet? Most people don’t eat these highly nutritional foods.

Harvesting time is difficult as they need to be harvested by hand. Is It True…

Is it true that the government wants to take the National Anthem out of Schools? Not sure completely but I do know that some Schools across Canada already have done just this very thing. Why? Because it annoys a couple of people? This is our Country, the land that our fathers fought wars for so that we can have freedom and yet we as Canadians get treated like second class to the minority. It’s a dishonor even to those who are fighting now for Freedom.

When one sings their National Anthem it brings Pride to oneself for living in a Country where there is Freedom and yet, little by little it’s being taken away because of minority. Very unfair!!

This the is the letter I wrote to our government today. I believe we all need to start writing letters instead of standing around and becoming so complacent that a few people can change our Country because their annoyed, just because their the minority. What about the rest of us who are annoyed by it? Will you write a letter stating what your willing to stand up for? Or will you just sit back and become complacent just because that’s in your Freedom to do so? You really want to watch the future of your kids be dictated by minority?

Anyway, this is my letter. As you will see I am not a “Politically Correct Person” and don’t plan on becoming one.

“This is appalling!! First it was prayer because that offended one person and we all know what has taken place in schools since then. Drugs, killings, disrespect, bullying, and the list goes on. Now, you want to take the same song that gives National Pride to a Country because it offends foreigners? We have people who fight what that songs stands for. If we went to a foreign country and told them to stop singing their songs we would be laughed at or even shot at in some places.

This is very concerning as a Parent and I’m very angry that our government is wishy-washy that they won’t stand up for the people of this Land. I have lived in Canada all my live and am very angry that my children’s future is being dictated my the minority.”

Short, sweet and right to the point. Took 2 minutes to type. Type one yourself and send it off. Start standing up for your rights instead of just leaving it to hang in cyber space.

Hemp Raspberry Muffins

Do you enjoy warm, nutritional muffins for breakfast? Make them the night before and heat in the microwave or place them into a lunch bag for a healthy snack.

Ingredients

2 cups oatmeal (large flakes, not instant)

4 cups 1% milk

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups whole-wheat flour

2 cups cornmeal

1 cup hulled hemp seeds

4 tbsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

4 eggs, beaten

2 tsp lemon zest

1 cup hemp seed oil or canola oil

1 1/2 cups brown sugar, lightly packed

3 cups whole raspberries, frozen

Directions

* Preheat oven to 375 F

* Line 45 muffin cups with muffin papers

* In a large microwave safe bowl, combine the oatmeal and mild. Microwave on high until the oatmeal is creamy and tender, about 5-6 minutes. Cool slightly

* In a large mixing bowl, mix the all-purpose and whole-wheat flours, cornmeal, hulled hemp seeds, baking powder and salt

* in a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Mix in the lemon zest, hemp seed oil, brown sugar, and oatmeal mixture

* Add the liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients. Mix until the dry ingredients have been moistened

* Gently fold the raspberries into the batter. Fill the lined muffin cups 2/3 full

* Bake for 20-30 minutes, until the muffins are lightly browned and a toothpick inserted comes out clean

Taking My Son Clothes Shopping for School

Going back to school is an experience that all parents experience. It’s one of those things that just has to be done. Do you enjoy this yearly event?

Even if you home school, you still prepare to go back to school. For years I’ve been trying to talk my son who is 11 to go be home schooled. It would be the best! I wouldn’t have to worry about getting up early, making lunches the night before, driving in the cold winter (I live in Canada), dealing with teachers and homework, do things together during the day, wouldn’t have to worry about picking him up at a certain time of the day. He won’t go for it, I even tried to entice him with holidays – Didn’t Work! What do you think of Home Schooling if that’s a part of your families life? I am stuck with having to do all that and more as my granddaughter is starting playschool this year and I am not ready to let her go. She is of course, beyond her years in intelligence and social skills, it’s me with the problem. The missing of her has already started. I still miss Dakota, who is now in grade 6. I enjoy my kids being home with me. Spending time with them when we’re not fighting is something I look forward to most days.  Don’t get me wrong, I still feel the excitement of back to school days, it’s the best time to buy the latest fashions. It’s also for me a very emotional time, all my emotions seem to come out those two weeks before school. It’s also pretty exciting in the fact I’ll have more time for myself, don’t have to deal with teenage raging hormones, my house is cleaner, Dakota is happy to be with his friends and to learn. He’s one of those rare breeds that actually likes school so there are a few good things about sending your kids to school. And for a total of 17 years that I’ve experienced this yearly event, this year is no different.

Took my son shopping yesterday. Even for me it was exciting to see his happy, excited expressions. He was thrilled and overjoyed to be shopping in the same mall that his brothers would shop in. To be in the same store that his brother Steven used to shop in was something he expressed as “I can’t believe that I’m here” “These are the clothes that Steven would wear, this is his fashion and now mine.” My son Steven died on December 31, 2008, he was the boys’ best friend. He will always be missed in our home so to have that experience for Dakota was something he never thought that he would have. It added something more special to both of us this summer then I couldn’t have imagined. Ending our day with a surprise that he didn’t expect and to be honest, I didn’t either, is a memory that we will both hold dear.

It’s now time to count down the days. To pack the backpack, get back on a routine of sleep, start buying those extra foods I wouldn’t normally buy to fill a lunch bag, to prepare emotions for the first day.

The excitement in my granddaughter as she asks every day “Do I go to school today” brings a smile of knowing that she’s ready. The memories that we will create in the next two weeks will hold dear in our hearts. What memory of  “back to school” do you share with your family?
